Phasing down of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) can help reduce global temperature increase of 0.5oC by the end of the century.
Realizing the importance of the Montreal Protocol (MP), parties to the Montreal Protocol agreed during the 28th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (MOP 28) during October 10-14, 2016, in Kigali, Rwanda, with the outcome of Kigali Amendment to phase down of HFCs. Parties are to ratify the Kigali Amendment.
The 39th Open Ended Working Group Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (OEWG39) was held from July 11-14, 2017, Bangkok, Thailand. ACCC members participated in the Meeting and ACCC statement was released.
ACCC calls on countries to ratify the Kigali Amendment to phase down HFCs in order to avoid temperature increase of 0.5oC by the end of the century.
ACCC had a meeting during July 8-9, 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand, to discuss and prepare for its engagement in the 39th Open Ended Working Group Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (OEWG39), during July 11-14, 2017, in Bangkok, Thailand, and to prepare for its statement. ACCC calls for parties to ratify the Kigali Amendment.
Key issues of concern included the safety issues of HFCs replacement (both to climate and to lives on earth), Non Article 5 countries to take the lead in phasing down HFCs, supports to Article 5 countries (developing countries) to phase down HFCs, domestic laws and legislation for HFCs phase down and gender responsive consideration in the safety issues.
